Claremont McKenna College
A grant from the MaddocksBrownFoundation established a chair in South Asian History at Claremont McKenna College. Dr. Nita Kumar, an esteemed scholar and writer, was selected as the first Brown Family Professor in South Asian History. She is productive in research and publishing in both Anthropology and History. She has further moved on to include Women’s and Gender Studies, Literary Criticism, Education and Performance Studies in her approach. Dr. Kumar has presented her research on education, democracy, modernity, and children in India, and continues to do so.
